A woman formerly staying at a female recovery facility in the state of California reportedly stole a minivan and engaged in a hours-long law enforcement pursuit ending with her crossing the international boundary into Mexico on the start of the week.

Auto Theft Reported from Recovery Residence

According to a law enforcement announcement, a second woman, the owner of the vehicle, 45, reported that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was stolen, along with her vehicle key. The owner, who manages two women’s sober living homes, identified the suspect as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately an hour’s drive of LA.

“The keys were stolen out of my manager’s handbag. I happened to pull up right when it was occurring,” Walters stated, adding that the vehicle is used for the sobriety home’s tasks.

Dramatic Chase Unfolds Across Several Regions

Authorities located the stolen vehicle about 19 kilometers north in a nearby city, where they attempted to pull the vehicle over, but Wilson refused to stop and accelerated rapidly. She reached speeds of about 145km/h on the 118 freeway until the chase continued into Los Angeles county. At that juncture, Ventura county authorities handed over the pursuit to the CHP once the driver entered the Interstate 405 traveling southbound.

“This one is particularly unusual in the sense of the traffic conditions allowing drivers to continue to remain on the highway and prolong this chase,” said a public information officer from the local law enforcement agency.

Wilson reportedly avoided all the tire-deflation devices tossed on the roadway by authorities, as seen in aerial videos.

International Getaway and Aftermath

The chase finally arrived at the international border by early afternoon, prompting the highway patrol to terminate the chase due to legal limitations.

The vehicle owner stated on Tuesday that the vehicle was situated in the Mexican city of Tijuana and that she was working with the authorities to recover the vehicle.

“Ultimately, I’m not concerned with the vehicle,” she said. “I’m more at ease aware she was not injured. The minivan is replaceable.”

Walters, who has operated Diana’s House Sober Living since last October, acknowledges that the journey toward sobriety from substance abuse and emotional distress is often non-linear.

“This represents a psychological and substance abuse emergency,” she said. “There is a need for more support. It is essential to provide greater resources for those that are facing challenges.”
